Mopani’s star cyclist ends season on a high note

Mopani is proud to be a sponsor of Hennie Kriek who recently came second overall at the MTN National Marathon Series.

Hennie Kriek, a Nelspruit based cyclist sponsored by Mopani Pharmacy, recently achieved a second place overall in the MTN National Marathon Series. He also won the sub vet category of the series.

The MTN series is a yearlong event which includes eight races in towns across South Africa. Riders accrue points at every race with the best five points to count for overall position.  This year was Hennie’s fifth time participating in the event and his best result yet.

In fact, he says 2012 has been his best cycling season ever with highlights being his MTN Series result and earning his SA colours in July at the South African XC (Cross Country) Championships.

He credits hard work and a healthy lifestyle for his successes. “It takes commitment, dedication and focus to keep on achieving. I however also try to maintain a balance between training and rest days. It’s important not to over train.”

Hennie has been doing mountain biking for seven years now and has no intention of slowing down. “I never tire of it. Being outdoors and being active keeps me motivated.”  He is planning to participate in a seven day stage race next year in the Swiss Alps and says his ultimate MTB dream is to represent South Africa at a world championship in his category.

Hennie also wishes to thank his sponsors for their support and enabling him to race all over South Africa; Rob from Mopani Pharmacy, Mankele and Endecon Ubuntu Engineers.

Solal ladies breakfast well received

More than a hundred local women were recently spoiled at our Solal ladies breakfast. Pictured Monica Welding, general manager Solal Technologies, and Cebo Mntambo.

The popularity of Mopani Pharmacy’s ladies breakfasts was once again proven when 120 local women attended our Solal breakfast on 19 October at Bee Eaters Farm, Nelspruit.

Brett Murphy from Solal Technologies discussed the topic “are you stress-agitated or stress-exhausted”. He also explained how to correctly identify both stress body-types and judging by the many questions afterwards the presentation was well received. Thereafter a buffet style breakfast was served and each went home with a free Clinique gift bag.

“At Mopani we celebrate woman and their plight in this age of being a daughter, mother, wife, friend, employee and so forth. These breakfasts are an opportunity for us to thank them and also spoil them with informative presentations, delicious breakfasts and just some relaxing time out,” concludes Kathleen Bailie, marketing manager at Mopani.

Mopani hosts talk for Arthritis sufferers

Mopani Pharmacy celebrated another medical day recently; World Arthritis Day on 12 October.

World Arthritis Day is celebrated internationally every year on 12 October.  It is an opportunity for people with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) to join together and raise awareness of the issues affecting them.

In recognition of the day Mopani hosted a free talk on Osteo Arthritis at our Crossing store. The talk was well received with nearly forty people attending. It was presented by Zikhona Spelman, training officer for the pharmaceutical company Sanofi-aventis. Spelman gave a general introduction to Osteo Arthritis and then discussed the benefits of Glucosamine Sulphate in the management of the disease as well as necessary lifestyle changes and available treatment options for sufferers. Each attendee also received some free ArthroChoice samples, a pain relieving supplement for joint stiffness and inflammation.

Mopani Pharmacy now open in White River

View of the new Mopani White River’s dispensary. The lay-out of the store is similar to Mopani’s I’Langa Mall store in Nelspruit.

After thirty years of servicing the Lowveld community Mopani Pharmacy recently extended the company’s operations to White River by opening up a third store in the newly renovated White River Square shopping centre.

Mopani White River – as the new store will henceforth be known – opened its doors on Monday, 1 October to a feeling of anticipation and excitement. The neatly packed shelves were lined with opening specials whilst the Mopani staff members stood ready to assist customers.

“Monday opened with a bang,” says Verity Izenboud, one of Mopani’s directors. “It was such a special feeling with the customers being very excited and inquisitive.”

Many White River residents will recognize Izenboud and the rest of the Mopani White River staff members as the team from Danie Malan Pharmacy. Earlier this year Mopani and Danie Malan announced that they’ll be joining forces and although the merger took place in June already, all changes were behind the scenes until relocation of the store to its current premises. The new store’s look and feel now fully resembles Mopani’s corporate identity – from the triangular Mopani logo to the blue staff uniforms. The stock range has also been expanded, particularly in the baby and fragrance and cosmetics departments. Shoppers can look forward to an extended range of baby and food supplies and a bigger variety of fragrances. The new store also stocks Esteé Lauder, one of the world’s biggest beauty brands.

Furthermore all of Mopani’s esteemed and value-adding in-store programs and promotions are now also available to the White River community. This includes the Mopani Baby Club, Chronic Medicine Program and Mopani Card – the latter being indispensable to customers in order to qualify for Mopani’s ongoing promotions and in-store competitions. A temporary Mopani Card Sign-up station has been erected outside the store to ensure shoppers don’t miss out on any of the program’s benefits.

“This change has been good and challenging to the old Danie Malan team,” says Izenboud. “I would also like to thank the residents for their support of Danie Malan and trust that Mopani White River will continue to be the pharmacy of choice to the White River community. Remember, we are still here to serve or even just to pop in for a chat.”

Mopani celebrates National Heart Awareness Month

Health screenings can even be life saving! Mopani recently offered free blood pressure and glucose testing in celebration of National Heart Awareness Month.

In celebration of National Heart Awareness Month Mopani Pharmacy in partnership with Pharma Dynamics and Bayer offered free blood pressure and glucose testing on 28 and 29 September outside their Crossing Centre store.

According to Sr Jane Mongwe, department head of clinic services at Mopani, health screenings are important because they can warn against possible health problems like heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity. Detecting these diseases at an early stage can even be life saving since the patient is then aware of it and can then make the necessary lifestyle changes to manage the disease properly.

Mopani Pharmacy’s Wellness Clinics offer a full range of basic health screening tests including blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and Body Mass Index. Visit them at our Crossing Centre, I’Langa Mall and White River Square stores or phone (013) 755 5500 for more information.
